LAR recently received a safety award from major client ExxonMobil in recognition for working a total of 49,300 hours without a recordable incident.

The work involved the removal of asbestos materials from a live engine room and living accommodation on an oil producing vessel off the west coast of Africa ( Equatorial Guinea ). It required two teams of five operatives plus one supervisor and an independent analyst on a four week on / four week off basis working twelve hour shifts.

“The working environment was very testing with high temperatures throughout the duration of the work, as well as working around the day to day production needs of the vessel” commented LAR Managing Director, Bob Clarke.

As well as being regularly audited by ExxonMobil staff, we also sent over our own auditor to ensure that high standards were constantly maintained. We carried out unannounced audits on our operatives, whilst always maintaining a close liaison with the client.

 
 
   

Quality Auditing

In our continuing efforts to provide the best and safest working environment for our customers and our operatives, we regularly carry out random site audits to ensure that our operational teams maintain the superior standards expected in a high risk business.

From implementing the system in 2001 and the end of 2006 we have carried out in excess of 1,450 audits throughout the country, averaging approximately 6 per week. Audits are carried out without prior notification to the site and often include works being carried out at night and within enclosures when the auditor enters the work enclosure using all the necessary safety equipment required.

Audits cover all aspects of our operations from preparation of the work area to clearing site upon completion of the works.

 

Continuous Improvement

To continue improving our performance, the information we receive is passed back to our supervisors via regular meetings, culminating in a presentation at the end of the year to the supervisor achieving the best audit score. The commendations and awards for high standards throughout the year started in 2005 and the first award went to Stuart Anderson. Last year Paul Beaumont achieved best audit score and the most improved supervisor was Dave Mansley. Paul and Stuart are pictured below:
